Our Scoring Framework

Transparency & Accountability

We evaluate the governance system, policies and structures in place in non-profits to develop insights into their level of accountability. We take a view on its level of transparency by counting the types of information published by organizations. For example, having independent members in its board of directors would signify a higher level of accountability and external scrutiny. Tiny habits such as documenting meeting minutes is also another indication of the level of traceability of decisions made at this organisation.

Impact

We estimate the addressable number of beneficiaries to understand the potential impact of an organization and the extent of the different social problems and causes. Where data is available, we look into the types of impact metrics published by non-profits, and evaluate their level of transparency. We believe non-profits with specific impact metrics is an indication of an organisation’s ability to measure, track and thus improve its social impact.

Resource Efficiency

We developed 4 key metrics using a combination of data on salaries, assets, expenses, number of staff and number of projects. We collect these figures from public available reports and primary data collection methods. This enables us to evaluate how efficient an organization is in deploying its resources. For donors, we believe this is an important area of consideration - choosing the organizations with high levels of resource efficiency would mean your donations are not wasted on unnecessary overheads and administrative costs.

Track Record

We dive into public records to uncover past controversies associated to non-profits, their affiliates and management team. Whatever it is, the way an organization and its people conduct themselves should be known to donors that are entrusting them with responsibilities.
